Connecting a new appliance
Most appliances need two things: a cold water supply with its own isolation valve, and a waste that takes the water away without letting smells back up. If you are putting an appliance where there was one before, it is often just a case of checking the existing connections are sound and in the right place. If it is going somewhere new, we run the supply and waste to suit.
Leaks behind washing machines and dishwashers
Water appearing from under an appliance usually comes from one of a few places:
- A worn or loose inlet hose washer
- A cracked or perished inlet hose
- A waste hose that has slipped out of the standpipe
- A leaking or partly blocked waste trap or spigot under the sink
- An isolation valve that weeps when turned
We check the plumbing side first. If the fault turns out to be inside the appliance, such as a pump or door seal, we will tell you so you can contact the manufacturer or an appliance engineer.
Smells and slow draining
A washing machine that leaves water in the drum or a sink that gurgles when the dishwasher empties often points to a partly blocked waste, a missing trap or a waste hose pushed too far into the standpipe. These are usually quick to put right.
Fridge freezer water feeds
American-style fridge freezers with ice makers need a cold water feed, usually a narrow pipe with its own valve. We can run a feed from the nearest cold supply and fit a valve so it can be isolated if the fridge needs moving.
Water side only
We connect the water supply and waste. If an appliance needs a new socket or any electrical work, that needs an electrician.
Questions about this service
Can you plumb in a washing machine where there was not one before?
Usually, yes. It depends on where the nearest supply and waste are. Tell us where you want it and we will give you a free quote.
Do you fix washing machines?
We fix the plumbing that serves them, not the machine itself. If the fault is inside the appliance, you will need an appliance engineer.
Water is coming from under my dishwasher right now. What should I do?
Turn off its isolation valve, or the stop tap if you cannot find it, switch the dishwasher off at the wall if it is dry and safe to do so, and call us.
