Radiator and heating repairs in Soundwell
Cold radiators, leaking valves, low system pressure and new radiators. We look after the water side of your central heating. We do not do gas work.
Heating jobs we do
- Bleeding and balancing radiators
- Fixing leaking radiator valves
- Topping up system pressure
- Replacing and moving radiators
- Repairing heating pipework
Radiators that will not heat up
Where a radiator is cold matters. Cold at the top and warm at the bottom usually means air in it, and bleeding it is often all it needs. Cold at the bottom and warm at the top suggests sludge has collected inside. If some radiators are hot and others barely warm, the system probably needs balancing so water flows evenly to every room.
Leaking radiator valves
Valves can weep from the spindle, the joint to the pipe or the joint to the radiator. A small leak often leaves a green or white crust rather than a puddle. We repack, reseal or replace the valve depending on what has failed, and we can fit thermostatic radiator valves if you want more control room by room.
Low pressure on a sealed system
Many homes have a sealed heating system with a pressure gauge on or near the boiler. If the pressure keeps dropping, water is escaping somewhere, often from a radiator valve, a joint under the floor or the pressure relief pipe outside. We can top up the pressure and look for where the water is going. If the cause is inside a gas boiler, that needs a Gas Safe engineer.
New and moved radiators
Replacing an old radiator with one the same size is a simple swap. Moving one, or fitting a larger one, means altering the pipework, which we can plan and carry out. We will check the existing pipes and valves as part of the job.
Heating pipework
Older houses often have heating pipework that has been extended over the years, sometimes in ways that make the system slow to heat or hard to balance. We repair leaks, replace corroded sections and tidy up runs where it helps the system work properly.
Questions about this service
Can you service my boiler?
No. Boiler servicing involves gas work, which we do not do. Use a Gas Safe registered engineer.
How often should I bleed my radiators?
Whenever a radiator is cold at the top. Many people check them at the start of autumn when the heating goes back on.
My boiler pressure keeps dropping. Can you help?
Yes, if the water is escaping from the radiators or pipework. If the fault is inside the boiler itself, you will need a Gas Safe engineer.
