Emergency plumber in Soundwell
Open 24 hours a day, every day. If water is going somewhere it should not, call us and we will talk you through making it safe while we get to you.
Call us straight away for
- Burst or split pipes
- Water through a ceiling or light fitting
- An overflowing toilet or cistern
- A leak you cannot stop
- Your only toilet blocked
What to do right now
- Turn off the water at the stop tap. It is usually under the kitchen sink. Turn it clockwise until it stops.
- Keep water away from electrics. If water is near sockets or light fittings, switch off at the consumer unit only if you can reach it with dry hands and without standing in water. Never touch a wet switch.
- Drain the pipes. Open the cold taps, and flush the toilets, so the water left in the pipes has somewhere to go other than through your ceiling.
- Switch off the heating and any immersion heater if the leak is on a hot water or heating pipe.
- Catch what you can. Buckets and towels under drips. If a ceiling is bulging, keep out of the room below.
- Call us on 0117 214 1231. Tell us what you have done so far and what you can see.
What counts as an emergency?
If water is causing damage now, or you have been left without water, a working toilet or a way to wash, that is an emergency and we will treat it as one. A dripping tap or a slow sink is annoying but can usually wait for a time that suits you, which often works out better for you too.
If you are not sure, call and describe it. We will tell you honestly whether it needs someone now.
What we do when we get there
The first job is to stop the water and find exactly where it is coming from. Sometimes the leak is obvious, such as a split pipe under a sink. Sometimes water travels along joists and comes out a long way from the source, so we trace it back before cutting into anything.
Once it is safe, we explain what has failed and what a proper repair involves. If a permanent repair needs parts we do not have with us, we make it safe and agree a time to finish. You get a free quote before any work starts.
Older homes and seized stop taps
Around Soundwell and Staple Hill there are a lot of older houses, and a common problem in an emergency is a stop tap that has not been turned in years and will not move. Do not force it. Call us and we will talk you through the alternatives. Once the emergency is over, replacing a stiff stop tap is a quick job and worth doing.
Questions about this service
How quickly can you get to me?
It depends on where we are and what we are already dealing with, so we give you an honest idea when you call rather than promise a time we might not keep.
Do you come out at night and at weekends?
Yes. We are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including bank holidays.
Will I know the cost before you start?
Yes. We give you a free quote before any work is done, whatever the time of day.
The leak is coming from the pavement. Is that you?
The pipe up to the stop tap in the pavement belongs to the water company, so report a leak there to Bristol Water. From that stop tap into your home, the supply pipe is usually yours, and we can repair it.
