Bathroom updates

If you are replacing a bathroom suite, we take care of the plumbing: removing the old fittings, adjusting supply and waste pipes, and connecting the new ones. Tell us early what you are planning, because the position of the soil pipe and the type of hot water system you have will affect what fits where.

We focus on the plumbing. If you also need tiling, plastering or electrical work, those are best done by the relevant trades, and we will work around them.

Showers

Showers are the most common source of bathroom leaks and pressure complaints. Mixer showers depend on the hot and cold supplies being balanced, so a shower that runs hot then cold often points to a problem with the valve or the supply to it. We repair and replace shower valves and mixers.

For electric showers, we connect the water side. The electrical connection must be made by an electrician.

Leaks in the bathroom

• Failed silicone seals around baths and shower trays
• Leaking bath and basin wastes
• Loose or worn toilet pan connectors
• Weeping joints on pipes boxed in behind panels

Bathroom leaks often show up first on the ceiling below. If you see a stain under a bathroom, it is worth getting it checked before it spreads.

Older bathrooms

In older houses round here, bathrooms were often added or moved long after the house was built, so pipe runs can be long and wastes can have very little fall. That can mean slow draining and gurgling. We will tell you if the layout is part of the problem and what could be done about it.
